How Do I Edit Family Movies?
We've been digitizing a lot of family videos and film over the past few months. Lots of wonderful memories, of course! We love seeing how people feel when they watch videos of their grown children as babies, toddlers and more. But sometimes, people want to know how to edit family movies.
Some of the scenes may not be necessary to preserving family stories. I bet you can think of some moments you'd like to delete. . .
- Hours of gymnastics, soccer or other sports
- Countless band and choir concerts where your children are tiny specks in a sea of kids
- Travel videos like from the car window that go on for miles and miles
- Scenes recorded by your children playing with your video camera
- Family reunion scenes of the picnic food, desserts, etc
Well, we have created two resources for people to enjoy their family memories, keep the important footage and delete the rest! On our YouTube channel, we have posted two videos, one for PC and one for Mac to get you started on editing your family videos.
Easy Video Editing for PC
We loved using Movie Maker back when it came with Windows, but Windows let go of that program years ago. Now, Windows comes with the Photos app. While it's not a photo organizing solution, the Photos app has a very easy video editor. Click below to watch our super quick tutorial on it.
Somewhat (!) Easy Video Editing for Mac
If you are looking for a very quick video editor on your Mac, you'll want to use Quicktime. However, iMovie offers you many more options for adding music, titles, transitions and more. It can be overwhelming to use iMovie but we've got some quick tips to help you get started in it without too much trouble. Click below to watch our video tutorial.
Other Video Editing Programs
There are many other programs to edit family movies out on the market. Here's a few others you may want to check out if you'd like some different options.
- Wondershare Filmora
- Final Cut Pro
- Adobe Premiere
Your family movies should be a source of joy and fun to watch! We recommend getting your videos digitized soon if you haven't already. Time is causing video tape to deteriorate and you could lose your memories. We are happy to help you with this and you can learn more about our video editing services here.
