How Do I Organize Digital Photos using Windows 11 File Explorer?

Organizing Digital Photos Using Windows 11

Using Windows 11 File Explorer is an easy and effective method to sort, organize and neatly store your digital photos.

Let's dive into the simple steps to get your photo sorted and organized:

1. Open two Windows File Explorer and create a new folder. Name it something like "2020 Photos" or any other year that matches your photos.

2. Select all your 2020 photos that you want to move. Drag these selected photos into your 2020 Photos folder. Windows will say "Move to 2020 Photos."

3. Continue the process of moving your pictures to their respective year folder. Inside your main folder, you might want to create subfolders to organize your photos by month. Right-click your main folder, create a subfolder, and name it for example "2023-07 Photos".

4. Once you're done moving and organizing your photos, clean up your folders by removing duplicates and extra files. You can use a duplicate finder program to make the process quick and easy.

5. If you're using OneDrive to store your photos, be cautious when dragging photos to your computer. Sometimes, the action can lead to unintentional duplications. Always keep an eye on whether you're moving or copying files to prevent unnecessary clutter.

6. For iPhone photos, if you're copying photos from your phone to your computer, you may see AAE files. These are the edits you made to your photos on your phone. You can delete these if you like - they will not be useful on your PC.

And there you have it! With a little time and effort, Windows 11 File Explorer can help you organize your digital photo collection into clean organized folders.
