Maryā€™s Photo Organizing Journey: From Chaos to A Better Plan

One of the greatest joys of The Pix Plan is seeing members make real progress in organizing their photos. Mary recently shared her journey, and her story is a perfect example of how persistence and the right approach can turn a scattered collection into a meaningful archive.
We met Mary back in 2017 or 2018 at a local craft fair where Pixologie had a booth. At the time, Mary gathered our information and some ideas on how she could move forward preserving family memories. Flashing forward seven years to 2024, Mary decided to join The Pix Plan to get more education, assistance and tech help with her photo saving projects.
Rediscovering the Past
While working through her digital files, Mary came across a photo of herself from 2017 documenting the frustrations of working with old technology. At the time, she was converting old VHSC tapes to her computer, determined to save her home movies. She successfully transferred them onto flash drives and CDs, but years later, she realized those files were scattered in multiple folders, and some had become corrupted.

Now, after being involved with The Pix Plan for nearly a year, Mary has a clearer vision for preserving her family’s memories. Mary decided to send the tapes to Forever for professional digitization. This choice gave her confidence that everything would be preserved correctly, without the frustration of unreliable files and poor quality.
Making Steady Progress
Mary has been making great strides in organizing her digital photos and is feeling closer to completing that part of the process. Even with a busy schedule, she has kept moving forward by setting small, manageable goals. Checking in on her picture files daily—even for just 15 minutes—has helped her stay on track.
Mary says “The Pix Plan has given me a lot of knowledge and resources that helped me move forward including the power of the checklist.”

As she works through her collection, she’s also been uncovering older attempts at organizing. Looking back, she’s grateful to have found The Pix Plan, saying, “I am really glad I found you all those years ago—otherwise, all my pictures would be in my own chaotic version of organization!”
Looking Ahead
With her digital photos nearly complete, Mary is now preparing to shift her focus to printed photos. She has been keeping a list of questions and is eager to tackle this next phase with the same momentum.
Despite some upcoming life events (as we all have), she remains committed to finishing what she started. She recently said, “I definitely need all your wisdom and guidance for at least another year!”
Mary’s story is a reminder that photo organizing is a journey, not a race. Every step forward brings more clarity and peace of mind, knowing that precious memories are preserved for future generations.
